Cres Cor Blog 3

Days 4, 5, and 6

Day 4 started with the usual 7:45 meeting with each of the supervisors. Right now, the fab department is a little behind schedule because we are having trouble getting workers to show up and do their jobs. The biggest factor that is causing the fab department to fall behind is the turrets are a slow moving machine, causing parts to bottleneck at that step in the fabrication process. From 9-10, we had the weekly scheduling meeting that releases the work schedule for the week. Then, at 1:30 we had another meeting with the supervisors and quality control guy to go over the new work schedule with them.

I spent a good portion of day 5 working to find the folders with work instructions from the previous week’s schedule so that we could get ready to release the current work schedule. I was able to find most of the missing folders but was still unable to find two. When a folder is missing, it is usually just on the shop floor somewhere because somebody did not put it back in the correct spot. With Ryan being the director of operations, he gets many issues to deal with. One of the problems we had to deal with on day 5 was to get a hold of the vending machine company to come to Cres Cor and restock all of the vending machines. Another issue was the maintenance guy said we needed for coolant for the new deburring machine, but it was all in German. Since everything was in German, we were unable to find any more of the coolant.

Every Wednesday, Ryan goes to visit the Cres Cor distribution warehouse on Taft ave in Cleveland. He goes just to check up on everything to see if all of the orders are going out, if there are any problems, and to make sure everything is running smoothly. Cres Cor stores all of their stock in the building, which is four stories. In order to move all of the industrial ovens, warmers, and hot cabinets to the different floors, a tow motor goes up and down in everyday up and down a massive 10,000-pound capacity elevator. Along with the building, the elevator was built in 1926. The building also served as Cres Cor’s first manufacturing plant when the company opened in 1936.

The photos are  of the building and the elevator motor and brake in the penthouse on top of the old factory.
